First, special thanx goes to Golub (Ženevski Dekret) for this. This is late 80's crossover from Sarajevo, Bosnia. I have found some info on this blog which had it already uploaded - Alter-Malter , so thanx to them too. Nuclearchy started in 1987, as crossover with rhythm machine influenced by D.R.I., Voivod, Big Black, Slayer, S.O.D., No Means No, etc. This is their Demo Tape and I like it, interesting stuff, you should hear it for yourself. Later they changed the name but I didn't heard their other bands. Some members are now living in different parts of the world. Here's Nuclearchy "Dead Broke" Tape, seems as really rare stuff, should be more known.

Quod Massacre - Demo 5 (1988)

This demo was recently uploaded by Miheal from Zagreb, Croatia, and I decided to share the link here. I really like Quod Massacre stuff on Fait Accomply tape that I already posted here on Corpus Delicti, but I also enjoy their self titled LP from 1991 which is quite different in musical style. And this Demo is the missing link between the two, once again proving how great this Slovenian / former Yugoslavian band was. Hear for yourself...

Time for another stolen link, this time from great new blog dedicated to former Yugoslavian hardcore punk thrash grind, etc... called When Death Comes..., respect! So, I remember some songs by Kerozin, probably from one of compilation tapes back in time, and this demo was really nice surprise for me. It kills, ass kicking crossover thrash, real old school hardcore punk metal thrashing from Beograd, Serbia / former Yugoslavia. It has all that I like about my fave 80's crossover, unpolished, darkened and in your face, yet so damn catchy. Glorious times, there is even a touch of early grind / crust / death in few songs, just a perfect recordings. Take care about When Death Comes... blog as it continues with bands as Pogibija, Patareni, Pneumonia, TMP, Fear Of Dog, Brainstorm, etc... Yeah, shameless self promotion, I know. But I think this may be interesting to you, we covered "Tragovi" by Proces and "Lepote Moje Domovine" by UBR, rest are our own songs, some by our previous bands, giving them a new life too. Our new stuff is what I can call punk hardcore thrash with dark atmosphere influenced by real life at Balkans. Well, we learned that approach from 80's former Yugoslavian bands, and as we see it, situation today is also harsh and desperate. So, we just continued what 80's bands were doing, no preaching, just real life hardcore.

Krdo Slonova - Comp. Tape (1987)

Real underground compilation done in Zagreb with hardcore bands from different parts of former Yugoslavia. I remember having some releases by the guy / label behind this but this one I somehow missed back in times, so big thanx goes to Krasti for sending me this in digital format. Especially as it has some very rare bands that I was searching again for a long time or haven't even heard till now. Few are bit more known, but in general this is really deep d.i.y. compilation of that period. Which means most recordings here are live or rehearsal and it means really raw, but if you like noisy primitive hardcore chaos or 80's former Yugoslavian sound, go enjoy the ride with; S.O.R., Polska Malca, Kbo!, Progressive Idiots, Giuseppe Carabino, 2 x D.M., Genevan Decree, KZV, WSW, and The Dissidents. S.Z.I. / Senseless - Split 7'' EP (1999)

When I am at Požega here is split release by one of the bands were I played, and it is Senseless. I recently uploaded it for someone who was asking for our old stuff so why not sharing it here too. With Senseless we played raw and aggressive crustcore and we were also compared to 80's hardcore punk, other band from the split were our Slovenian friends S.Z.I.(Sirup Za Iskašljevanje)and they are in similar style. I guess we had a bit more of metal / grind influence too. 7'' was released by the bands and Slovenian label called Abnormal Beer Terrorism. I remember that S.Z.I. had a good demo tape release too, while Senseless had a lot of tape releases while we were active, mostly split tapes with bands as Mastic Scum, Twisted Truth, Seguimos Aqui, Dickless Tracy, etc... and one split CDr with Pro Masa released after we split up. Also we played in few different line up's, gigging around Croatia and Slovenia, so I hope you'll like us and S.Z.I. at here, bringing you some of the late 90's hardcore thrash from this part of the world. Married Body - Kiss The Bride - Demo (1989?)

Something from my hometown Požega, Croatia. Married Body was great noise rock band active in years before the war started, not sure exactly when this demo was recorded. It was self produced and I have found it on old slsk when I was still using it. Some people asked me for this, so here it is. Thanx to guy who ripped this, it seems from old demo tape, but sound quality is fair enough and brings back the times when home taping was the real deal. Also thanx and hello to ex members of the band, you know who you are. Married Body played very original music, being one of the noise rock pioneers in former Yugoslavia and Croatia, and they even covered The Great Balls Of Fire, so you know, this is a must! I remember their live shows, it was a blast.

Atomski Rat - S/T (2010)

I avoid to post too much recent recordings at here, as this blog is dedicated to sound of 80's former Yugoslavian stuff, but this fits here just perfectly. Atomski Rat is young band from Šid, Serbia, and here is their new album. Yeah, raw hardcore punk, as it was and as it should be. And what I like the most, this doesn't sound like hundreds of other bands playing similar noisy type of music, this has some real identity and for that reason I think it really continues the tradition of former Yugoslavian hardcore punk while at the same time this is sounding very fresh to me. OK, try it for yourself, best stuff I have heard from this region for quite some time, if you are into the sound usually presented at here, this is a must. Also including covers by Herpes Distress, Shitlickers, and Sodom. I did the front cover artwork for this, you can find it in the folder, together with back cover too. From what I know Depresija was short lived post S.D.A. band, some raging fast hardcore songs in similar style, but also some darker slower punk is here too, and judging by the band name and same named song played by both bands, they may be connected to Niet as well. Anyway, this demo is a classic for former Yugoslavia and Slovenian hardcore punk, do not miss it, great stuff!

KEK - Live in Podrum (????)

Punk band from Kosovo, former Yugoslavia. I don't have any info when this was recorded, guy who gave me this mp3's wrote that it was before the war there. This is raw and chaotic hardcore punk, quite close to noisecore, kinda reminds me on some Colombian hardcore thrash punk stuff or trash punk in general. Also some odd psychedelic and folkish noise can be heard at here, which makes it really unique. Lyrics are mostly in Albanian so I don't understand it, but music is real good.

Slovenian band, one of the first extreme metal bands in former Yugoslavia. And it is death metal of early style, pretty much like really extreme thrash metal bordering to grindcore. Generali - Demos (198?)

Another band I remember from 80's but didn't listen to it for ages. Generali were 80's hardcore / punk rock band from Zagreb, Croatia / former Yugoslavia, again a bit messy file here, songs from different demos, with different sound quality, but it's fair enough I think, and gives a nice view on their work. From aggressive hardcore punk to more melodic and dark punk rock, really great band, highly recommended. Thanx to Abergaz and Parapunx forum for the link, also to guy who ripped this - Žikk. Dead Pistols - Demo (198?)

Now, something from my hometown Požega, extremely rare stuff. It took me decades to finally find it again, luckily it is here, thanx to Zec for ripping it and Mata for passing it to me. As the name says, Dead Pistols were punk rock band heavily influenced by UK 77 sound, with nice teenage nihilistic feel. Mostly covers by Sex Pistols, Anti-Nowhere League, with some of their own music, which is also really good I think. Recorded somewhere in early to mid 80's if I remember it right, some members played in other local bands, too. Some songs are in few different versions, also not all songs are tagged right, but I am leaving it this way. What you can expect here is good old UK 77 styled punk rock in more garage version, which works fine for me...

Yes, finally I have made few more posts, been busy with other things, life, etc... Also, I have pretty much posted the most of my fave ex yu hardcore punk stuff from 80's, there is still some that I have lost back in times and can't find it anymore, not even as mp3's, so if I find it again, or anything else that I really like from that period I will post it. But I think the main purpose of this blog is done, bringing back to light some great old underground music, and I hope those who really like it will continue to search on their own, too. Thanx to everyone who helped and supported this blog, you know who you are. Keep the links alive as I may not have time or will to re-upload frequently, so spread the word if you like what is here. Devastation (Croatia) - The Possibility of Life's Destruction, Demo (1989)

Since I am re-posting so much links from Alex's Audio Heaven blog, it's time to present one of his bands at here. There are numerous bands of same name, but this one is special. In 1987 they recorded their first demo called The Upcoming Mayhem, being one of the first extreme metal releases in this part of the world. But here is their demo from '89, as I think it may be interesting to both, punks and metalheads. As obvious from it's title, heavy Discharge influence here, still the real thrash metal stuff, even Discharge cover is here, so you know, it must be good. This band also reactivated recently, check them out on myspace here.

Pasmaters - Demo (1986)

Pasmaters, from Pula, Croatia, another great old demo, it's very raw, real garage / practice recordings, but I like it that way. Fast and furious hardcore punk, if you like your hardcore totally unpolished, and with raging punk speed, this is it. Band still plays, with two studio albums released in 2000's that can be downloaded for free at Monte Paradiso net label. You can also check out Pasmaters myspace page here.

Etiopia - Live (6. 5. 1989)

Etiopia is hardcore punk band from Svetozarevo (ex Jagodina), Serbia. They played in 80's, from 1984., and they can be found on some compilation tapes from that time. Here are their live recordings, not the perfect sound quality but if you are used to real underground sound of that times, it's actually fair enough. Thrashing hardcore punk with that bitter taste of 80's ex yu style, I like it. Later they changed their sound and had some records released in early 90's, more on the mainstream side, and than stopped with playing for 16 years, until 2009. Now they are back, and they returned to punk rock sound, check out their myspace page here. OK, download this authentic former Yugoslavian thrashcore as played at this live recordings from their best times.

Another short demo from second wave of Beograd, Serbia / former Yugoslavia hardcore punk. It was recorded either in 1986 or 1987, I think this are their only recordings. Aggressive chaotic primitive hardcore thrash punk, anti war lyrics, and raw as hell. I like it, of course, that's why i am posting it, hope you will enjoy it too, especially if Finnish or South American hardcore punk and trash core bands as Lärm, Rapt, Psycho Sin, etc are your thing, former Yugoslavia had that sound too.

Terveet Kädet - Bondage And Anguished Life - Bootleg 7'' EP

I like Finnish hardcore punk, especially of the noisiest type, some of it pretty much influenced some of old former Yugoslavia bands, that's sure. So, here is an TK bootleg 7'' I traded back in times with one Polish guy. It is live 21.7.1995., in their original line up, so except nothing but raw in your face hardcore punk here, ending with an classic punk rock cover song. Sound quality is quite OK for what it is, pretty fair booklet really, cover scanned, track titles there, front cover is some fetish / phone sex collage, whole 7'' comes as one mp3, thanx to Igor for ripping / scanning it years ago, not sure how much copies were made but I am sure you won't find it easily on the net, so here it is. Suomi hardcore rules!

Very good compilation of late 80's hardcore punk underground, lot's of variations here, really shows how creative bands around here were. Some are more known today, some that are considered obscure, but all equally great bands; Kbo!, Have A Nice Day, Volk In 7 Kozličkov, Motus Vita Est, Strelnikoff, Ujetniki Svobode, Ženevski Dekret, Vrisak Generacija, and Game Over. Check this out, good songs all the way.

The Bleeding - Promo '96 + The Answerless Maze EP (1996 + 1998)

Thanx to Harbinger, master of doom from Beograd, for uplading this and sending me the link. The Bleeding is mid 90's doom metal band from Pula, Croatia. According to Harbinger, band have recorded material for The Answerless Maze EP in '94/'95 but it was released in 1998 as CD on Slovenian label Impaled. Only 200 copies made, so it is very hard to find today. At that time band was already defunct. Both, promo and EP are some killer traditional doom, as Harbinger wrote me, a good mix of WITCHFINDER GENERAL and THE OBSESSED. Well I am not an expert but I like it, if you are into classic doom sound or today's doom revival, this should be a must for you. Or if you like good music in general, The Bleeding shouldn't be forgotten.

Bloody George - Posmrtni Marš - Live Video 1992

Thanx to Tate from Skopje who sent me this you tube link here's the live video from Bloody George playing at some hardcore fest in Skopje 1992. Bloody George was early 90's band from Skopje, Macedonia / former Yugoslavia. They started as noisecore/gore, later progressed to hardcore/grind. Unfortunately I have lost all their reh/demos that I traded back in times. Tate wrote me that if possible he will send some Bloody George recordings from some old tape, hope it will work, good luck Tate!

OK, Corpus Delicti is definitely not the only blog bringing rare old former Yugoslavian stuff, another young guy is bringing some goodies at his No Security blog, so I am making another link re-post here. To quote what he wrote;
"Ex-Yu compilation I really dont know nothing about. Sounds like somebody had few privat practice jammings of these bands and decided to put it on tape. From what I know,this was never released. Anyway, pure raw balkan punk. Bands on this tape: Solunski Front, Necrophilia, Distress, U.B.R. (with never released song Vedno), Quod Massacre, Niet, Opasne Igre, Sköl."
Yep, very rare stuff here. Even if some of the recordings from here I already posted as some demo or live stuff, this is a different rip, and as compilation it has some songs that are pretty much impossible to be heard anywhere else. So, real garage hardcore punk here, a must if you like that sound.

Epidemic Zone - Escape From Detente - Demo (1989)

Ripping, tight thrash metal from Slovenia / former Yugoslavia. Their second demo recordings, I remember they appeared at some 3 way split tape with Polska Malca and another band from I believe Krško region, also Start Today in Novi Sad released a 7'' by them just before the war. 7'' was all instrumental metal on progressive thrash side, unfortunately I didn't saved neither the tape nor 7''. There is some technical approach at here too, but it has all, power, speed, melody and aggression, if you like old school metal you just cannot go wrong with this, believe me. Metal was huge in former Yugoslavia and this is one great example for it. Thrashing masterpiece.

Autopsia - The Knife (1989, re-issue 1992)

"Autopsia is an experimental band. Autopsia’s art practice began in London in late 1970s, continued during 80s in art centers of former Yugoslavia and since 1990, Autopsia acts from Prague, the Czech Republic. At the beginning of its activity Autopsia issued a dozen of MCs, in the period after 1989, twenty CDs were issued, at first for Staalplaat from Amsterdam, then for German label Hypnobeat, London’s Gymnastic Records and Illuminating Technologies. One of its compositions is a part of the soundtrack for Peter Greenaway The Pillow Book (film). Music production of Autopsia is associated with a large graphic production which consists of original graphic objects, design of flyers,posters, booklets, CDs, CD ROMs, experimental films and audio instalations."
It's very hard to find the former Yugoslavian period tape releases from this extraordinary industrial/experimental/ambient band. I believe The Knife was originally released in former Yugoslavia, and later re-released somewhere else, more info is welcome. I remember seeing Autopsia art works in some former Yugoslavian fanzines but never had a chance to hear it until just recently, and I am heavily impressed, if you are new to Autopsia this may be a great start...

Night Over Yugoslavia - Comp. Tape (1984)

Amazing sampler of early 80's former Yugoslavian hardcore, punk and alternative music underground. If I am right, it was originally released as home made tape in former Yugoslavia under the title "Noć Nad Jugoslavijom", and this is rip from tape re-release on US label called Exotic Underground, the title is translated to English language. If anyone has more info correct me if am I am wrong. Mostly practice room recordings here, but hey, we are speaking about former Yugoslavian underground when studio recordings were impossible luxury, so this is how it really was, not just easy entertainment here. Bands, coming from different Republics of former Yugoslavia; UBR, 2 Minuta Mržnje, Teror, Cratageous O'Dance Band, Solunski Front, Giuseppe Carabino, Necrophilia, Odpadki Civilizacije, H.M.F., Progress, Proces, Distress, Nered, Arhivska Zabava, Debili u Prolazu, Padot Na Vizantija. Mostly hardcore punk but some other styles too. Some of the bands I only know from this compilation, a real piece of the history here.

Mrtvi Kanal - Demo Tape (198?)

OK folks, I am back. Lot's of pressure on the job plus I am busy with my own noise projects, so haven't got enough time for the blog. I see there's some interest for this blog, sorry for not answering your comments but I say thanx now. So, until I found enough time to upload some stuff by myself, I will repost some great links from other killer blogs and net sites. Mrtvi Kanal was punk band from early 80's, from town of Rijeka, Croatia / former Yugoslavia. Rijeka was famous for lot's of really good punk and here's something very special. Mrtvi Kanal never made it to the vinyl which unfortunately was a cause with many former Yugoslavian bands, but this demo I consider to be an absolute classic. Great darkened punk rock / new wave here, and they had very powerful lyrics as well. They sing in Croatian about socially related stuff with razor sharp punk sarcasm that even had no mercy for punks as well. That's what I like about old punk from around here, a real identity and not just a life style fashion to fit in. Anyway, if you don't understand the lyrics I am sure you will still enjoy the music as I do, real punk at it's best.

Disčerge - Rehearsal Demo (mid 90's)

Disčerge or sometimes written as Discherge was a short lived band that 3 of us here in Pozega made while drinking in parks or place where we started to play. This is all we ever recorded, 3 tracks recorded with cheep boombox that we borrowed, we had no guitar player, just drums, bass guitar on distortion and vocals, so expect nothing but real raw hardcore chaos punk. Reminds me at my drunken days, I quit drinking about a year and 3 months ago, but we really had our times. Including a first version of song called Pank Pankerima that was later played by our more serious band Fight Back where all 3 members of Disčerge were playing. The song has a sort of cult status in former Yugoslavian hc/punk/crust underground, I know for at least 3 bands that have covered it. But not many of them know for this first version by Disčerge. Also 2 other songs at here are as much good I think. Beside Fight Back we all played in bunch of other diy bands from Pozega, bass player and drummer are now living in Zagreb, where bass player still plays with a band called Ljubiša Samardžić. OK, up the gutter punx!

International hc/punk compilation released by Artcore Records, one of my faves from my old vinyls collection. Related to the main theme of this blog is appearance of Quod Massacre from Slovenia, former Yugoslavia. You can find old demos collection by Quod Massacre here on this blog, but check out this great compilation, too. Homo Picnic from US are opening with two great hardcore songs, next is a song by Kazjurol from Sweden, more metalish punk thrashing, on side B is that self titled track by Quod Massacre, very unique hardcore punk sound, and last song is great live recording by Instigators, quite well known punks from the UK. Outermost / Ruido De Odio - Split 7'' EP (1996)

Something ripped from my own record. Not 80's former Yugoslavian stuff, but I think this may be interesting to some of you. Back in times I traded this 7'' with Kei Yokota of Outermost, one of the best Japanese noise projects in my book. You can hardly find any info about Outermost on the web, but quite a name in the underground noise circles. Here presented with highly intense uncompromising lo fi industrial noise, mad frustrated vocals and occasional beats thrown in, very harsh sound and on it's own. Ruido De Odio is another underground classic, a true legends of Ecuadorian hardcore grind punk scene. Here delivering raw chaotic grind/noise from their old days. If you like that South American raging style this should be also a must for you. Great record, released by Chivolo Diskos and Cat Move as real DIY international co-operation. High quality cover scans included, special thanx goes to Igor for ripping and scanning this, like some other stuff from my records collection that I am posting here. Enjoy the noise!

Very tasty former Yugoslavian, Slovenian hardcore punk band. Judging from the raw sound all recorded in one take at their rehearsal place, a demo that I liked a lot back in 80's, and I believe this are their only recordings. 13 songs, missing the song titles for the last two. If I remember it right they had two guitarists and no bass player, but their sound is quite deep anyway, dark and melodious yet chaotic and energetic at the same time. Listening to it now I am sure that this is another band that shouldn't be forgotten, check it out for yourself, if you like that dirty, sad and pissed off sound of 80's hardcore punk from former Yugoslavia, Ujetniki Svobode were great at it. Once again thanx to guys at slsk from whom I get most of the lost treasures at here. No Name - Demo 2 (2008)

Something that is just recorded, No Name are my old hometown friends playing traditional Balkan Punk as it should be. This is their second demo, first was recorded about a year before, even if band exists from 90's. No Name frontman finally have found a more stable line up in guys who are known for various other underground punk, hardcore, crust, grind, metal bands in my town. This is not a "serious" band, made for fun without any big plans, but it sure rocks, so unpretentious and real. Two of their own songs, if you like punk rock, street punk, early hardcore punk sound in former Yugoslavian style, this should be a must for you. Here they also covered a classic 80's rock song by Riblja Čorba, at their first demo they covered Quod Massacre too. Great stuff for pogo, always a great show when they play around here, but not to forget good bitter punk lyrics as well.

Udarac Drito No. 2 + 3 - Fanzine (1989)

Here is the zine I made in late 80's, written in Croatian but it may be interesting to some of you. 16 A5 pages, high quality scans from original master, so you can see how it was glued all together a good old cut and paste way, or even make your own copy. Originally only 60 copies made. Including interviews with President Fetch (Denmark), Rectify (UK), 16 B.U.H. (Sweden), Strelnikoff (former Yugoslavia, Slovenia), Have A Nice Day (former Yugoslavia, Slovenia), Bloody George (former Yugoslavia, Macedonia), Naked Raygun info, Satan Panonski poster, column by Ivan Glišić, flyers, etc... all interviews made through postage mail, you know, DIY old fashioned way. If anyone has more 80's former Yugoslavian zines and is able to upload it, let me know, there was a lot of it. Hope you'll enjoy this one.

Volk In 7 Kozliček - Recordings (1988)

Another Slovenian / former Yugoslavia hardcore band. I remember their tape back from 80's but it had much more songs that this 3 songs at here, so it's was probably some other recording session. Anyway, VI7K had unique sound, mostly mid tempo metalish hardcore with poetic dark and personal lyrics, creating somehow melancholic atmosphere with occasional more screaming and aggressive parts. In a way this may be seen as early metalish emo hardcore music, luckily for me with sound that I like, as I was never into real emo and I doubt that most of todays emo kids will like this. So, if you like darker side of 80's hardcore, check it out, not that much heavy as it is led by good melodies, VI7K definitely shouldn't be forgotten.

Slovenian / fomer Yugoslavian hardcore pioneers Odpadki Civilizacije for the third time at this blog, and very much deserved. Not the best sound quality as it is rehearsal ripped from an old tape, but hey, this is some raging hardcore trash punk anyway. Dirtiness comes as natural here. To me sounding a bit different than their appearance on Ljubljana Hardcore LP, I don't have the tracklist, sorry, but I recommend this to people who like old fast forward approach, savage and primitive. Yeah, this is what I always considered as real hardcore. Uncompromising garage hell!

Brainstorm - Only The Dead See The End Of War - Demo (1989)

Brainstorm was late 80's / early 90's hardcore crust band from Beograd, Serbia, former Yugoslavia. Here's their '89 demo, they had more releases later, in international circles may be more known for their split LP with Battle Of Disarm from Japan. Each of their recordings are very prolific, easily one of the best such bands of that time. I like this demo a lot, tight and aggressive, with political lyrics in English. Don't miss this powerful metallic hardcore crust punk thrashing. Total classic. Only front cover included, it says studio + live recordings but I have only studio recordings here, so it's possible that Only The Dead See The End Of War came in two different versions.

T.R.B.U.H. - Reh/Demo 2 (1990)

OK, mine own noise this time, the first recordings I ever did with anyone. This band started in late 80's as Palus Per Cerebrum (very bad Latin, I know), but first reh/demo was recorded under T.R.B.U.H. name and without me. I am not sure but I think we recorded second reh/demo in 1990. Noise core, influenced by worldwide noise core scene of late 80's and little former Yugoslavian noise core scene of that time. Our specialty was parody, and in early days we were called "tribal noise core", as like this one, first few reh/demos were recorded with 3 vocalists and drums (the drummer was also playing for anarcho hc/punk band Apatridi), with only occasional use of other instruments. Boombox recordings from drummer's bedroom, 13 tracks in 3 min 41 sec (11 mp3 tracks as some are connected). This reh/demo appeared on various releases through international underground circles, and there is still T.R.B.U.H. double CDr available by Smell The Stench in Australia. After "tribal" phase we did few local live shows of trash rock noise, one recorded, and finally some cheap synth noise "techno" mockery recordings in mid 90's. Most of it is on that double collection CDr release, here I give you classic T.R.B.U.H. noise core demo, something for the true lovers of no fi trash madness.

Philippine Violators - At Large! - Tape (1987)

I am using opportunity to give some attention to another great but underrated scene, Philippine hardcore punk of 80's! I don't like that silly terms like obscure and exotic scenes, this is as real as western music, if not even more. Playing this kind of music in an so called third world country, under very hard social, economical and political conditions, was obviously much more than just fun and fashion. And that can be heard at here. Philippine Violators are singing in English language, so US HC and 77 influence is obvious. But what makes it amazing is the rough feel of authentic rebellious music. This album is great mix of raw melodic punk and noisy hardcore style, with some real classics at here, like a song Cruelty even after death - it gives me creeps each time I listen to it. I guess that's what happens when band's music reflects actual society and real life horrors, a harsh world as seen from the young and daring peoples perspective. Philippine Violators don't have to prove how tough they are, they even covered Beatles at here, but this is hardcore my friends. Pekinška Patka - Demo (1979)

One truly legendary former Yugoslavia punk band from Novi Sad, Vojvodina, Serbia. A huge influence on the scene around here, and I know that they have fans elsewhere as well. No surprise, as they were like many other former Yugoslavian bands, among the best what punk rock gave at the time when it was still fresh and challenging. After hearing this demo I am sure you will reconsider your opinions about origins of hardcore punk sound, too. This demo is highly energetic raw punk rock, maybe the fastest stuff of that time, and very rare to find. Later they released 3 singles and two LP's for state owned record label Jugoton, without losing anything on their provocative approach, continuing the style at here, just a bit cleaner in production, of course. The last Strah od monotonije LP from 1981 was the only one with different music style, that being the more darkened post punk, but Biti ružan, pametan i mlad 7" (1979), Bolje da nosim kratku kosu 7" (1980), Bila je tako lijepa 7" (1981)and Plitka poezija LP (1980), are absolute classics of total punk. Demo 1979 is even more hard hitting and intense, so if you don't already have this - do not miss your chance to hear some of the best punk ever.

S.P.U.Š. - Demo (1986)

Another great Slovenian, former Yugoslavian band, not sure from what town exactly. S.P.U.Š. stands for Sveti Petar U Šumi, tracks from this nice Demo appeared on many compilation tapes from 80's. It seems the last track is taken from some radio show, as sound is a bit different and it has short radio style introduction at the beginning. S.P.U.Š. had somehow unique sound, not easy to label, sounds to me like hardcore punk meets post punk. I mean there is simple, powerful upbeat energy of hc/punk approach without going on the really fast side. Also more melodic and post punk vibe to it, making it all together pretty close to some Oi! stuff as well. Reminds at times when bands were still original and making their own thing. From what I can understand lyrics are socio political in very bitter and sarcastic way. I still like this, it has guts.

A band from Zagreb, Croatia, their live recordings from Ljubljana, Slovenia, former Yugoslavia. Awesome hardcore punk, sound quality is not the best but neither that bad, it catches the energy of the band quite well. Female fronted, and I must wrote that this are some of the most aggressive female vocals I have heard. Highly recommended, Sköl continued to play in 80's and 90's, having some demo, LP and EP stuff, but this are as far as I know their only recordings with female singer. Sounds pissed, as it should be.

Hare - History Of Unnormal - 7'' EP (1991/1995)

Here I can give a bit more info as this comes from my hometown Pozega. Noise rock, a bit of Sonic Youth vibe, but also some darkened goth feel to it with flute added to tho sound, too. Working really good for me. Four tracks in almost 20 minutes, two of them are instrumentals. Pressed as probably some of the last vinyls made in former Yugoslavian vinyl factory Jugoton at 1991, but officially released in I believe 1995 as first Earwing Records release. They played some local shows that I enjoyed, members soon moved from Pozega and band split, but at least they have left us this. Recorded at Crveni Vepar studio that was owned by Rukopotezno Povlacilo, Jacques Fatalist, Married Body member who later moved to Holland. The name of the band does not have anything to do with Hare Krishna propaganda, this is some great, apocalyptic noise rock of it's own. Special thanx goes to my friend Igor in Split who ripped this, scanned the cover, all in high quality, and uploaded it, so I can share it here.

In memory of Ivica Baricevic - Bara who passed away on the 17 of May 2002 in Zagreb, due to serious health/heart problems at the way too young age of 30, former member of the band and founder of Earwing Records, also known for many other influential activities in Croatian and worldwide independent music circles.

Another raw hardcore band, this one from Subotica, Vojvodina, Serbia, former Yugoslavia. Garage sound with almost no guitar distortion at all, but don't expect anything really clean, this is still noisy in your face primitive hardcore punk with dirty Balkanized approach. I don't have any info on this band, but very neat stuff if you like some real good old trash punk. 3 live tracks from 1985 included as well.

Grč - Demo (1986)

One of the most interesting bands from Rijeka, Croatia, former Yugoslavia. This is their demo from 1986, very dark post punk recordings, with hard hitting atmosphere. Later they added some metal influences to their goth sound, but in the very meaning of the word, Grč are one of the real hardcore bands around here. They never made it to any commercial trendy exposure, probably because of their extremely strong and controversial lyrics, very poetic but also direct and brutal, presenting the darkest sides of life at Balkans. This is not a goth rock for the fashion kids, but real, threatening stuff, with notorious reputation for their shocking live shows as well. Still active till today, somehow obscured to the max, I heard they recently played live with Paraf and Termiti (two old punk rock bands from Rijeka that it seems resurrected for few reunion shows), bringing some of the controversy on todays generations too. Extraordinary band, very influential in some parts of former Yugoslavian underground, and I think this 1986 demo is good start for getting into their work.

When I am at Audio Heaven blog I cannot but to repost another awesome link from there. Pulska Garež live recordings from the Destroy The Melody Festival 1 which took place on the 14th of April 1994 at Pula, Croatia. Pula had very active grind/noise/gore scene in 90's, this is some of it. Pulska Garež were drums and one guitar grindcore band with dual growling / screaming vocals which brings some crusty feel to the sound. Similar to early E.N.T. or Disrupt at "Smash Divisions" 7'', plus some noisy punk parts, with lyrics more on the politically incorrect perversion and dirt side, all delivered in raging deliberately bad taste style. Heller - Live Demo (1989)

A legendary thrash metal band from Boegrad, Serbia, former Yugoslavia. At same year they released classic Balkan's metal record their s/t full length LP, and this are even more rare recordings, taken again from Alex's Audio Heaven blog where you can find more of Heller and other former Yugoslavian stuff among lots of his other posts. 4 tracks with urgent, dark and crude approach that I dig. With thrash metal revival of this days Heller should get some attention around here. Fans of the most raw metal from 80's like some German, South American, Canadian, and other eastern European stuff, also all todays war metal thrashers and crossover thrash headbangers, check this out. Heller were respected in hardcore punk thrash circles as well, actually I have heard them first taped and sent to me by the member of noise punk band Thrashagain, it was usual back in mid/late 80's when both thrash scenes were at it's peak. This live demo still presents old speed/thrash/death/black in it's most real noncompromising and uncanny way, horns up for Heller.

Hell yes, one of my all time fave compilations, good presentation of mid 80's former Yugoslavian hardcore punk scene, with some of the best bands from that period. All recorded at same hardcore festival, hold in Lubljana, Slovenia. Good quality live recordings, at times a bit chaotic but that's how it should be. Here is the line up; Vrisak Generacija, S.O.R., Patareni, Polska Malca, Genevean Decret, G.U.Z., Tožibabe, 2227, and III. Kategorija. If you are into 80's former Yugoslavian hardcore punk this should be a must for you, some of the most classic recordings of that time are here. Each band having a sound and style of it is own, but intensity level is equally high for whole tape. There was a video tape version released at same time by Založba FV under the name "Ni Strahu", you can find it for free download (with some other former Yugoslavian rock/punk/ebm/alternative video stuff) here. Special thanx to people from whom I have downloaded some rare rips here at my blog, mainly via SLSK, you know who you are. Listen to this compilation, it's pure ripping hell.

Motus - Vita Est - Tape (1988)

Zagreb, Croatia, former Yugoslavia, hardcore blast from the past! Their first demo album released as DIY tape, hardcore punk with thrash metal influence, resulting in bulldozing hardcore thrash assault, much more raw and aggressive than their later stuff. Great tape! After this album they had some line up changes and changed the name to Motus Vita Est, continuing to play and release new albums to this days, at January 5. playing 20 years anniversary show. You can hear one brand new track at their myspace page here, the thing I still like about this band is that their vocalist Hogar who led the band all this years still writes some of the most realistic engaged lyrics in Croatia, and not just boring and preachy politically correct life style sloganeering as in most causes with engaged hardcore bands of today. Spinki Menta - Kuchi V Nochi - Tape (1987)

Not former Yugoslavian stuff, but Siberian classic 80's hardcore punk, part of mighty hard working and really daring Russian underground scene. It has that beautiful dirty and melancholic sound that I like about Siberian punk. Very emotional but while I do not find most of so called emo music very interesting, this is much more real and actually emotional, taking its mood from real life horrors, not like todays trend of spoiled and privileged kids crying how fucked up they are. Also, this is the real punk as fuck music, original, folkish and experimental at same time, with raw garage lo fi sound of course. Well, hear it for yourself, I cannot get enough of this. I was unaware of Russian punk back in 80's, but it is never too late, this music is timeless. Spinki Menta had more DIY tape releases, changed name to Cherniy Lukich, Vadim Kuzmin who led both bands also had other projects like new wave of Muzhskoy Tanets, or avantgarde project with Letov, Yanka and others called Kommunizm. I highly recommend to people who like real stuff to investigate Russian underground, underrated and obscure in western dominated scene, but very challenging and of highest quality. Apart from all this, Spinki Menta demo at here is just awesome music on it's own.

Extreme Smoke 57 - Demo 2 (1991)

Extreme Smoke 57 was part of former Yugoslavian grind/noise network just before the break of Yugoslavia, I remember trading home taped reh/demos with them and others as Zivi Zivot Zivotom Zivih, Bloody George, Udrni'n'Razbi, etc... for same by noisecore band T.R.B.U.H. I was then in. Unfortunately my old tapes didn't survived so I am looking again for that stuff. Here is ES 57 studio demo from 1991, old fashioned grind punk stuff, check it out, they are now considered as first Slovenian grindcore band. Some their members at that time also played in Croatia based grind legends Patareni and even shared some tracks with Patareni. Funny story about their name, it comes from cigarettes called Filter 57, in former Yugoslavia considered as hard working class cigarette. I was smoking it too, so no wonder I was into ES 57 stuff of that time, hehe. Later they made quite a few releases, some vinyls too, sometimes under the name Extreme Smoke (I must say I was disappointed with that name change, hah), and they are still remembered as cult band in the worldwide underground grind circles.

Rukopotezno Povlačilo - Demo (early 80's)

Now something from my hometown, Požega is small town but there was sort of punk rock boom with several bands already at 70's at here. Rukopotezno Povlačilo also started in 70's and continued in early 80's and is considered as the best band of that period, having really legendary status among that generation. Their recordings are extremely hard to find, I am really happy that I can share it now. As most demos at here, ripped from an old tape so the quality is not the best. It is at least saved and can be heard, unfortunately many local recordings from old times seems to be completely lost and forgotten. What we have here is powerful garage new wave rock, fans of former Yugoslavian new wave sound this should be essential for you. Rukopotezno Povlačilo split up and gave birth to more dark post punk orientated band Jacques Fatalist, and later noise rock underground legends Married Body. While they were playing lots of shows and were respected and very influential around former Yugoslavia, too bad that many great 70's and 80's Požega's bands didn't had any opportunity for vinyl release, not even a proper studio recordings. But like this demo, it deserves to be recognized as valid and real music, that isn't coming from well known music centers only. If anyone knows in what year this stuff was recorded, or any other details, leave a comment and let us all know. Proces - Demo 1 (1985)

Proces, a legendary band from Subotica, Vojvodina, Serbia, former Yugoslavia. Awesome demo, hardcore punk at it's best. Very catchy stuff, good socially aware lyrics, you just cannot go wrong with this raging tunes, a real classic of former Yugoslavian hardcore punk. First 3 songs from this demo also appeared at split 7'' with another awesome band Stengte Dører from Norway, so Proces get some attention of 80's worldwide underground scene, now I give you whole demo with 5 more as good songs. You can find Proces / Stengte Dører split 7'' EP for download at Audio Heaven blog here. They recorded one more demo, which was good, but this '85 demo is mandatory for everyone with any interest in former Yugoslavian underground or old fashioned hardcore punk in general.

Polska Malca - Demo 1 (1987)

Band from Krsko, Slovenia, former Yugoslavia. Their first studio demo, here they play more technical hardcore, but still with real hardcore energy, I was really impressed when I have heard it for the first time in '80s. It has very unique approach, I still like it a lot. Technical parts are building quite neurotic atmosphere that is even more obvious in faster parts and vocals are nicely fitting to this controlled schizophrenia attacks. After this demo band continued with work moving to somehow jazzy more instrumental post hardcore type of sound, you can check it out at their myspace page here. Still working today, but their first demo recorded more than 20 years ago I still dig as very fresh and inspiring.

Ludilo - Idi Bez Traga - Demo + Live ('89-'90)

Killer stuff from Tuzla, Bosnia And Herzegovina, former Yugoslavia. Thrashcore in the maddest form, taking the most aggressive elements of trash metal and extreme hardcore, Ludilo made some really raging brutal crossover thrash noise. Motorhead cover included as well. Not sure when exactly and in what form was it released, this is basically a compilation of their '89-'90 demo and live recordings. Raw and intense!

Stayer Comp. Tape (1985)

Here is some pretty rare stuff, 4 Slovenian, former Yugoslavia, bands from I believe Maribor and surrounding region. First are P.V.J.S., it's some sort of classic former Yugoslavian hardcore trash punk with fun parts and approach that reminds me at early Patareni / Buka stuff, good choice to open the tape. Next are Center Za Dehumanizacijo or CZD, experimental punk, their early noise days, a band that still plays and has some sort of legendary status, which I think they deserve. You can find more about CZD at their site here . Third band is one of my fave from 80's - MASAKER, darkened and raging industrial hardcore punk with at times very provocative socio-political lyrics, another unique band that really had a sound of it's own. I have heard that their front man lately moved to Holland and is now active in Amsterdam's underground with something called a bike wars. Last but not least on this tape is experimental noise artist known as Mario Marzidovshek, his disturbing bizarre sound has some kraut rock influences, and is still quite respected in worldwide industrial underground circles, yet he was very supportive to hc/punk scene as well. Unfortunately Marzidovshek didn't continued his activities after 80's but he released lots of tapes while he was active, like this one released on his own DIY tape label Marzidovshek Minimalaboratorium. Cover scan is included but it is really minimal. No track names, only numbers of the tracks played by each band, oddly starting from no 27. Judging from it and sound at the tape I believe all this was recorded at some gig, it has the vibe of live recordings but sound quality is actually fairly good and clean. The tape was reviewed in Maximum Rock'n'Roll as experimental thrash, and I agree on that, a must for those who like their hardcore raw but with some actual originality in it.

Yegor Letov RIP

Legendary Siberian punk rocker Yegor Letov (GRAZHDANSKAYA OBORONA, YEGOR I OPIZDENEVSHIYE etc.) had died in his sleep from heart failure on February 19 at his home in Omsk. He was 43. Yegor has been an enormous influence on Russian punk scene, and his old songs are some of the most important anarchist propaganda ever produced in Russian language. The rage and desperation of the band’s music - which was, at its best, mindblowingly innovative yet raw - did reflect the times he lived in. Letov’s poetry, strongly influenced by early 20th century Russian futurists, has often been more important than even his music. The youthful punk rock nihilism, anarchist and antifascist politics, existential horror and breaking through to the other side were all expressed equally thrillingly. Letov’s legacy is without a doubt controversial (in part due to his political activities in the 1990s, and the morbid, suicidal shadows he cast over some fans and friends) but nevertheless great.

Yegor’s actual name and patronymic is Igor Fyodorovich. He’s the younger brother of famous avantgarde jazz saxophone player Sergei Letov (TRI-O, DK, GOSPLAN TRIO etc.) Yegor’s first bands started to form cca. 1982 or 1983 which makes him one of the pioneers of punk rock in the Soviet Union. POSEV (named after a dissident emigre publishing house) left some home-made recordings and gave way to GRAZHDANSKAYA OBORONA (civil defense) in late 1984. The band, led by Letov and guitarist Konstantin “Kuzya Uo” Ryabinov, was also initially orientated towards making home recordings in Letov’s “studio” GrOb Records. “We’ve staked mostly on making and distributing tape albums as we had reasons to think that live performances aren’t likely to come our way very soon, and at that particular moment they weren’t likely at all.” (Letov writing in Kontr Kult UR’a zine #3, 1991). In late Autumn 1985 after an intervention by one of the band member’s mother who was a Communist party apparatchik, G.O. was forcibly dissolved. After a series of interrogations at the local KGB, Letov was sent to a mental hospital (which was a favoured tactic of silencing dissidents at the time) - he has gone blind for a while from the drugs that he was given there. Uo, despite a heart condition, was drafted to the army and sent to serve at the space rocket launch site in Baikonur, Kazakhstan. Letov was let out of the mental hospital in March 1986 and started to record on his own. He also took part in the activities of the Omsk-based band PIK I KLAXON, also known as ADOLF GITLER.

In May - June 1987 Letov had recorded five half-hour albums which covered the material that GRAZHDANSKAYA OBORONA had by then (a selection of this stuff was compiled on Pops 2LP). Soon thereafter he had to run away from Omsk because following a scandalous gig with ADOLF GITLER in Novosibirsk there was further persecution from the authorities who tried to put him into a mental hospital again. He had hitch-hiked all over Soviet Union with his then-partner Yana “Yanka” Dyagileva (a very strong and important performer in her own right; Letov had produced and played on most of her recordings; she’d died in 1991, apparently a suicide). In January 1988, upon return to Omsk, Letov had recorded three more albums (the material was issued on Vsyo Idyot Po Planu 2LP), doing overdubs on crappy Soviet equipment. Uo, though demobbed by then, was unfit to play. GrOb Records had also recorded projects featuring POSEV’s Zhenya”Dabl” Deyev (P.O.G.O.), Vadim Kuzmin (SPINKI MENTA, CHORNIY LUKICH), Yanka, as well as Letov, Uo and Oleg “Managher” Sudakov’s long-running experimental outfit KOMMUNIZM.

In 1988 GRAZHDANSKAYA OBORONA started to play gigs, touring all over the country. The lineup remained unstable, but G.O. was recording prolifically, as were KOMMUNIZM, Yanka, Managher, Uo and Letov (as a solo performer). In Spring 1990 G.O. recorded an album of covers by another Siberian punk band INSTRUKTSUYA PO VYZHIVANIYU, and played its last gig on April 13 in Tallinn (now Estonia). Letov then broke up the band.

YEGOR I OPIZDENEVSHIYE (Yegor & the Cunted-Up) has recorded what is perhaps Letov’s biggest artistic achievement, Pryg-Skok LP, in 1990 - it combines garage punk, psychodelia and Russian folk into an enormously potent mixture, and Letov’s extreme, near-death experiences of the time (related to encephailitis he got hiking through the Ural mountains, and experiments with drugs and shamanism) have produced songs that are among the most incredible in Russian rock. It was followed by Sto Let Odinochestva 2LP, which is nearly as great.

In the mid-1990s Letov has come out of semi-retirement, reformed GRAZHDANSKAYA OBORONA and started touring under the aegis of various opposition groups, mostly of the Stalinist and Nationalist variety. Letov joined the National Bolshevik Party (NBP), and was among its most famous members for a while, along with writer Eduard Limonov, philosopher Alexander Dugin and pianist Sergei Kuryokhin. Letov, however, quit the NBP in 1998. He had later denounced the political games he played:

“I have been involved in the most extreme political camps, so I know the inner workings of that all. And I can report that all of it is very stupid and disgusting. All of it. It has to be experienced so as not to get involved in such stuff consciously, which is what I do.”

“I think that in order to live and be creative, which is the same thing, one has to be FREE. In my understanding, freedom means refusal from all the traps of this world. If I can use pompous language, I think that our civilization is a certain type of world order that is fed by certain energies - fear, pain, envy, destruction, the list could be endless. If all the NORMAL people would just get out of it, like out of a zoo, and live on a principle of self-sufficiency, self-freedom - not fighting them, not even contacting, creating our own squats, systems, labels, music, creative stuff etc. on a “do it yourself” principle - all the rest of the world will just DIE by itself. And it does, very visibly.”

“Just like we’ve been, we’ve remained a rebellious, superrebellious band. But the frontline is moving ever deeper and deeper, now it is beyond politics, ideology, religion.”

In a 2007 Rolling Stone interview he claimed that he remains an anarchist, but is more interested in the environmental aspects of anarchism.

G.O. continued to record (though never reaching the former heights) and tour internationally (Europe, USA, Israel, mostly playing to emigre audiences). They eventually reached a stadium rock band status. In the last few years Letov has busy reissuing the back catalogue in expanded and redone versions. He had also gotten involved in Russia’s underground garage scene. He produced and mixed a forthcoming full-length CD by St. Petersburg’s THE KING KONGS, as well as an EP by Moscow’s CAVESTOMPERS. GRAZHDANSKAYA OBORONA’s last full-length album, “Zachem Snyatsya Sny?”, was co-credited to YEGOR I OPIZDENEVSHIYE. Letov himself has considered it his greatest achievement. He is survived by his wife, G.O. bassist Natalya Chumakova.

On February 21 Yegor Letov was buried at Staro-Vostochnoye cemetery in Omsk, next to his mother’s grave.

Poganaya Molodyozh / Optimizm is basically the first united lengthy G.O. album which was recorded several times during 1985 and at the same time regularly released under all sorts of exotic titles: “The Best of G.O.”, “Diarrhoea Sounds of G.O.” (double album, pt. 1 Poganaya Molodyozh, pt 2 Optimizm), “First and Last G.O. Album”, “Omsk Punk History”, simply “Grazhdanskaya Oborona” etc. Quality-wise, all these recordings were of varying horrendousness and absolutely inhumane towards the listener (instead of drums, played and recorded was anything from a suitcase to a young pioneer’s drum to a hi-hat that was nailed to a piece of wood, the words were exteremely hard to understand, absolute lack of tuning etc.) There were really strange versions: one of the albums was nearly completely played on a DIY keyboard synth (!), another one (which also didn’t survive, regretfully) was interperced with absurdist, extremely short speeches and insets in the spirit of concrete music a la mid and later period KOMMUNIZM. In these recordings, apart from me and Kuzma, an x number of all sorts of people took part, the names of some of them can’t even be remembered now. The whole thing ended in late 1985 when the band was mercilessly dispersed by the oppressive organs of the state, I was forced to go into a psychiatric asylum, Kuzma - to the army, and all this material sort of hung in the air for a couple of years. For the first time it has appeared with bearable sound quality on album / compilation “Red Album” which I recorded on my own in the Summer of 1987. What the so-called “first” G.O. albums are, known among the people as Poganaya Molodyozh and Optimizm - they are basically remakes of the material off the aforememntioned first, very lengthy 1985 G.O. album, recorded largely between January 12 - 22 in 1988 after Kuzma Ryabinov came back from the army and rehabilitated. At the same time some songs were completely redone (just like we did a year later with POSEV album), some were remade using the ancient (1985) tracks. The albums thus completed were remixed and rearranged several times over the next few years. This time you have one of the first, original versions. We were dividing the material among albums based on these principles: Poganaya Molodyozh included songs by POSEV, as well as those written in the earliest period of G.O. existence (November 1984 - early Spring 1985). Optimizm has the later stuff, from Spring - Summer - Autumn 1985, apart from ones like “I’m an Illusion”, “Children’s World” etc. which were successfully played and included in Red Album.
The bonus tracks are previously unneeded, alternative takes and versions, as well as material that wasn’t used before at all.

Now back to main purpose of this blog. Codex Of Death or Codex OD belonged to second wave of hc/punk bands from Beograd, Serbia, former Yugoslavia. Very short demo, only two fast tracks presenting hardcore trash punk with unpolished, dirty sound. Neat stuff, if you are into noisy old school garage hardcore trash do not miss this one, I really like this.

Not former Yugoslavian stuff this time but from one neighboring country - Hungary. Another scene that was interesting and active in 80's. Compared to other former socialist countries Yugoslavia was actually quite liberal, so when it comes to conditions Hungarian 80's underground deserves a lot of respect, too. As all the other Eastern European scenes, so I will add more such and so called Third World and in general under rated scenes / bands rare releases from time to time. Back to ETA, this band had sort of legendary status among many former Yugoslavian punxs, here you can hear why. This is official 1982 demo tape, and from what I know including two recording sessions and live show from the same year. Punk, the real one. Kinda similar to some UK 82 stuff, but this is Hungary 82. Second band after Bosko I Buhe with same UK Subs cover song, an Western band quite respected around Eastern Europe. I like this not just as an document but for the noise itself, good tunes. Raw underground recordings again, which you should be already used to, heh. Self released, cover scan included.

Telonauka Sovršena - Kadis + Live Tracks (1986)

I am happy to share some Macedonian music this time. Telonauka Sovršena or sometimes written as Telo Nauka Sovršena comes from Struga, Macedonia, former Yugoslavia, formed in 1983 and Kadis is tape album released in 1986. If my info is not correct, as that's what I have found at internet, do correct me. Not sure when live tracks were recorded. Word grim is today used for lots of trendy and uninspired stuff, but this sure is some grim post punk beauty. The bend influenced Macedonian goth rock bands as Padot Na Vizantija, Mizar, Kismet, that made Macedonian scene quite known and respected in some alternative music circles, but this is quite mature and sophisticated already. I like this for what it is, dark real music with hypnotic deepness of centuries old Balkan doom, which adds to sound similar to bands as Joy Division something of it's own. Not so good sound quality, but take in consideration when and where this was recorded, tapes get old too. And it just makes it more authentic, and beautiful.

OK, another classic of former Yugoslavian hardcore and one of the very first hc/punk bands, also known as Stres Drzavnega Aparata or SDA, from Ljubljana, Slovenia. I recommend it to both, those into fast and furious old school US HC and real raw punk sound. Stres D.A. plays fast forward raw hardcore punk with raging former Yugoslavian approach. Aggressive, uncompromising and intense. No need for too much talk, this 13 tracks are essential. Hardcore!

White Rabbit Band - 1986 - Bootleg (1986?)

Well, one quite unique band here, coming from Beograd, Serbia, Former Yugoslavia. Best description of their style may be psychedelic punk. I remember seeing them on some youth music style TV show back in the days, and it was quite impressive to me. Never had a chance to hear it again until recently I have found this. I believe a bootleg of their demo and some live recordings, not sure exactly when released and in what format, but here it is. I still found their music very fresh, it may be interesting to fans of some STOOGES or BUTTHOLE SURFERS stuff, but this guys really had a sound of it's own. Quite experimental and at times noisy yet keeping the energetic garage rock vibe. Works good for me. From what I know after relocating in late 80's to New York some former members released an conceptual album there under the name White Rabbit Cult in 1999, which I haven't heard so far and it was from what I have read more industrial sample based music. Songs at here are rocking, psychedelic dark punk with balls, check it out.

G.U.Z. - Mokrota - demo 198?

Not sure exactly what year this was recorded, but I am sure it was mid 80's, as I have heard it first time at Radio Student, Slovenia, that had some weekly show for alternative music with some hardcore stuff. The signal was so weak and poor that I was hearing more the radio noises than the song itself, but I felt in love for the first time I have heard it, even as such. Also, this rip is not high quality, but if it is a problem, you are pretty much missing the point of former Yugoslavian hardcore. Only one track, as far as I know the only studio recording of this awesome band from Ljubljana, Slovenia, former Yugoslavia. The only comparison I can come with is perhaps Amebix or Axegrinder. Not that G.U.Z. (which stands for Grdi Umazani Zli) sounds exactly like them, of course, the song structures are different, but it has the same darkened and desperate slow metalish hardcore type of sound, while yet not being the after Amebix typical crust / stench core. Actually very original sound, for me this is a masterpiece even if one track only. Depressive but powerful song. I usually play it at repeat.

Buka I Urlik Tape - Necrophilia / Herpes Distress / Solunski Front (1983)

You can hardly go more hardcore than this. I never had a chance to see the original tape of this legendary underground release, presenting Beograd, Serbia, former Yugoslavia, hardcore punk scene of early 80's. We should be satisfied that it is at least saved in mp3 format, as this is so intense that makes many well known hardcore punk bands of that time sounding like some relaxing pop music, not to talk about loads of gutless overproduced stuff that is now considered as hardcore. Necrophilia opens with d-beat drums, harsh distorted guitar noises and aggressive vocals, a style that later became sort of trademark for some later Japanese noise punk bands, here with that former Yugoslavian early 80's identity. And when you think that it is over the top, here comes Herpes Distress, even more aggressive, chaotic and manic than already mad later Distress demo / EP that is also posted at this blog. Maybe only comparable to some of South American and Finnish hardcore noise. I don't believe that hardcore punk can go any more violent than this, makes even bunch of well known grindcore and harsh noise bands to be ashamed, listen to this vocals, no black metal band sounds so possessed as this, heh. Total fucking raw hardcore explosion! Listen for yourself, and let me know if I am wrong. Solunski Front demo recordings are less harsh and distorted but still highly energetic, rocking and thrashing hardcore punk. Another hardcore punk band that really had sound of it's own. Brutal.

Enklava - Demo 1994

When I am at Audio Heaven here is another mandatory link from that hard working blog. Alex is the king, check out his blog, you may find even some awesome former Yugoslavian hardcore, punk and metal that is not posted at here. Back to Enklava from Pula, Istria really gave so much great bands of our region. Enklava plays classic fast and furious Italian type of raw hardcore. Even lyrics are at Italian which is not strange as many people of Italian origins are living there. Crash Box cover song included too. I think that in early/mid 90's there was not much traditionally sounding hardcore punk bands left in Italy itself, so it makes it even more amazing, to have some of the best Italian hardcore recorded in Croatia. Needless to say that I like old Italian hardcore sound a lot, so this rules my world. I even had a chance to see them playing live back in times, it was a blast!

S.O.R. - Demos And Live ('86/'8?)

This is probably my fave 80's former Yugoslavian hardcore punk band, S.O.R. (Sistem Organizirane Represije or translated to English lenguage System Of Organized Repression) from Idrija, Slovenia. I know nothing more about this band but that their music really works for me. Raw hardcore with somehow anarcho punk feel, it's really a shame that they never had a chance to be on some vinyl as this is really a classic. I know their '86 demo from some tape release back in times, that demo is first in order here, I don't know when other demo was recorded, same for live recordings at here. Also not sure if this was a real release, probably some sort of the bootleg... So, any info is welcome. Anyway, I am somehow addicted to this music, hope you will feel some of that magic, too.

SAT Stoicizmo - Jačati Tijelo Sportom 12'' EP ('87/'95)

This is what someone already wrote about this industrial / futuristic unit from Croatia, former Yugoslavia; "The Croatian trio 'SAT Stoicizmo' was founded in late 1981 and - after recording their main works in the period from 1982 to 1985 (including one personal change in late 1982} - split up in 1987. Both geographically and mentally remote from the centers of the music scene and practically nonexistent in public even in their Slavonian native country, they developed a unique style of futuristic music - too noisy and structurally complex for rock & pop, too 'musical' for pure industrial, too rhythmical and physically offensive for modern classical music (musique concréte) but also too 'handmade' as compared to the later techno. The group itself regarded its both radical and extremely diversified approach as an attempt to combine the achievements of punk-rock-music with the classical concept of futuristic bruitism created by Luigi Russolo in 1913."
I live in same geographic region of Croatia, called Slavonia, wish I know from exactly what town this came, as it is much better than many other well known industrial names of that time, including Laibach. Special thanx to Samo Slusaj blog (see the links) where I have found the link, never heard it back in times, pure revelation for me as well. 12" EP means it is actually a one sided LP, only one track, recorded in 1987 and released in 1995 by German label "Artwave" in 400 copies. I am impressed, another timeless masterpiece here.

2 Minuta Mržnje - Demo 2 / Došao Je Kraj EP ('84/'95)

As you may see I had too slow down a bit, but don't worry I have lot's of stuff to upload, it's just that my bandwith is very limited. Here is yet another former Yugoslavian classic, 2MM from Novi Sad, Serbia, one of the first Oi! bands around here. This is their second demo, recorded at 1984 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, also released in 1995 by No Time To Be Wasted in Beograd as "Došao je kraj" 7'' EP. I am not an expert on Oi!, but to be honest this is some of the best such music I have ever heard. Again, I must wrote something about the lyrics, not a life style, personal, preachy, or fun punk here, but real life powerful anthems about hypocrisy, corruption and despotism of the ruling class. All this is even more present in todays nationalistic and neo liberal times, so I believe there is still a lot to be learn by this songs. OK, enough of my rumbling, this is punk as it should be, strong, real music, and real message.

Mentalni Nered - Rehearsal Demo 12.1985

Again with help of Audio Heaven blog, here's another lost treasure. Mentalni Nered was Pula's, Croatia / former Yugoslavia, answer to Disorder, Larm, and Finnish hardcore. Listening to it today it also reminds me at some Japanese stuff like Confuse or Gai but with that raw former Yugoslavian type of craziness. Chaotic dirty distort fest at here, so all you raw punxs and hardcore trash maniacs outhere, this should be a total must for you! Also I wish more todays crust bands to have this aggressive type of approach, maybe it's time to learn something from this guys. Mentalni Nered recorded more stuff, but with this practice room demo you really cannot go wrong if you like noisy unprofessional true old fashioned hardcore. Sick, as it should be.

2227 - Demo '86

What to say, this was like Slovenian hardcore superstars line up, hehe. Ex UBR / Epidemija / Odpadki Civilizacije members and vocalist was editor of hardcore fanzine Vrnitev Odpisanih. Demo is actually made of 4 tracks recorded as one, as they had opportunity to record one track for free, so they used it to record all 4 at once, and nobody not even producer noticed the surplus of 4 pieces. And that's what I like about this, crazy roller coaster kind of feel, never to be bored with what they were playing at here. Very original stuff. After the pause in work and some line up changes they continued to play in 90's, even more technical and unorthodox stuff, but it was not hardcore anymore, more instrumental jazzy rock sort of music, so it wasn't my cup of tea and I somehow moved to other bands and music of that period. Anyway, 2227 demo from 86 is still a real candy for my ears.

Back to 80's hardcore - 4 live tracks by Solunski Front from Beograd, Serbia / former Yugoslavia, one of the best early/mid 80's bands. Powerful hardcore punk, and I believe this are very rare live recordings. Their demo recordings appeared on various compilations, I must mention "Buka I Urlik" 3 Way Split Tape by No Profit Tapes, from 1983, that presented Beograd's hardcore scene of that time, together with Necrophilia and Herpes Distress. No Time To Be Wested also released some of that old 80's demo stuff at "Mali Svet" 7'' EP in 1996. For now I give you this of course raw, unpolished, but classic live recordings, song Jedno Zrno Casti is one of my faves, here even more raging and intense. I don't have any info when was it recorded and where, so if you know, let us all know. I do know that they have played live with BGK, Youth Brigade, UBR, Odpadki Civilizacije, Tozibabe, Dva Minuta Mrznje, III. Kategorija, Distress, so, for some of that atmosphere here it is...

Fecal Attack! Vol. 1 Comp. Tape (1994)

A look into the scene of early/mid 90's as well. This was released by me, through good old tape trading channels. All bands, except Hoću? Neću! from Kraljevo, Serbia, are from different parts of Croatia, playing various styles; punk, metal, hardcore, noise. It was all the same underground network, that was as you see very active during the war at here, too. Home dubbed, photocopied cover with cut and paste layout, recordings often lo fi, pretty much the same thing as with most of 80's tape compilations. I am not completely sure about the year it was released, but I think it should be 1994. There was Fecal Attack Vol. 2 Comp. III. Kategorija - Demo 2 (1986)

Here they continue what they have started at Hard-Core Ljubljana comp. LP, great Slovenian /former Yugoslavian metal ridden hardcore. Only 2 tracks demo, but I am happy that I can give you a really high quality rip this time. In the vein of European crossover from mid/late 80's, perhaps also similar to early UK crust like Concrete Sox or Hellbastard. Not too fast but strong straight forward up beat drum hammering, with powerful well built metal work at guitars, distinctive rough vocal, fair production, and quite darkened atmosphere. I think it was never released back in the days, until more recently at Tutti Pazzi Vol. 4 comp. CD by Falsanja Kol'ko's Records in Zagreb, Croatia. This is I think a must for both, old school hardcore punxs and metal headbangers. III. Kategorija shouldn't be so much under rated as they played some of the best hardcore metal punk ever. Bloodbath "Toxic Death" Demo / EP ('89/'90)

OK, now is time for some good former Yugoslavian metal, too. Bloodbath from Serbia, I remember their first demo from "Ptice Umiru Pevajuci" extreme metal compilation, another release I would like to hear again as my tape died long time ago. This is as I understand it their mini LP or EP (according to Metal Archives) from 1990, it was first recorded as same named demo in 1989, I believe. If you are familiar with former Yugoslavian metal as Heller or Bombarder, this is a must, but also a very good start. Here they play the early cross between thrash and death metal, when things were really intense and truly raging. I can hear some German and South American influences here, yet keeping the classic former Yugoslavian sound. In one word - perfect, at least to me. Mad but very good musicianship for this more primitive, savage feel, sort of metal. Highly recommended if you like your metal more dirty yet well skilled and brutally executed, in the best, old fashioned way. They had some albums after this but more on technical side of the thing. Dobri Isak "Mi Plačemo Iza Tamnih Naočara" Tape

No hardcore here, but this is great 80's post punk. Again, I don't know when exactly in 80's this was released. Band is from Niš, Serbia, former Yugoslavia. Tape cover scan included, only 100 tapes were made, and everything is recorded in drummer's bedroom. Maybe guitar sound is poor, but I think it owes more to rip and old tape than to production, which is actually better than some studio recordings from 80's. I really like this stuff, never heard it back in 80's, just recently found it, thanx a lot to guy who ripped this, it sure shouldn't be forgotten, as this is very fine stuff. So for those who like it a bit darker, I am enjoying this a lot.

Quod Massacre "Fait accomply" Tape

This is uploaded on RapidShare, hope this is a better solution. Also, quite a huge file - 85,3 MB, so it may take you some time to download, but I am sure it's worth of waiting. I don't remember exactly what year this was released, somewhere in late 80's by No Time To Be Wasted / No Profit Tapes again. This is basically a collection of their 80's demo recordings, it's possible that there are better rips at slsk or somewhere, but I got this, and I am satisfied. The original tape was home dubbed with photocopied cover and booklet, including more info, etc... too bad there are no scans here, I remember it had lyrics and old fashioned cut and paste lay out. I borrowed to someone my copy years ago and never get it back, no wonder, as this is really good. Quod Massacre had unique sound, very melodic and emotional hardcore yet keeping the energy of thrash punk. Awesome tunes, this is highly recommended as some of the best former Yugoslavian hc/punk, I mean in musicianship as well. They also appeared at few international seven inch compilations. I know that they had one more demo after this, introducing the change in style, and they started to sing at English, this late sound is best presented at self titled LP from 1991, released for Croatian label Search & Enjoy, which made them more known outside of hc/punk underground, as it was very good release, musically more in the vain of Bad Brains and similar stuff. But after that there was no news about them anymore, and I think their singer was also Slovenian movie actor. Anyway, this is still my fave stuff by this powerful band from Ljubljana, Slovenia / former Yugoslavia, especially the song Ponekad-poneko, which is recently covered by my old friends from my hometown punkcore band No Name.

Tožibabe - 7'' (1986)

Sometimes called "Dežuje" maxi single or "Dežuje" mini LP, but this is basically 7'', only band logo and photo is at the front cover. I give you this rip with high quality scans of whole cover, including lyrics translated to English, which are actually very gloomy and desperate, more on the personal side. Cover was photocopied, mine on light yellow paper so you can at least make your own cover as original. Speaking about music, this is less harsh than their stuff at "Hard-Core Ljubljana" Comp. LP, but still totally original and energetic, primitive hardcore. They even added keyboards to music, creating quite anxious atmosphere. One interesting thing about Tožibabe is that they were changing duties at instruments for each song, and were all screaming, so you know, beside the fact that this is all female, it sure isn't just another hardcore punk band. This is real and on it's own.

Ženevski Dekret - Demo '86

Ženevski Dekret or Geneve Decree from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, former Yugoslavia. Another legendary band, here at their Demo '86 they play simple, primitive yet melodic hardcore punk which has that in your face feel that I like. Catchy stuff, when I listen to it I can't help myself but to sing with them, haha. But don't expect anything fancy, this is punk as fuck, good lyrics reflecting social and economic crisis of that time (not that anything really changed), with some sarcasm thrown in, as it was usual for 80's punk bands. Last track is live from Ljubljana, more on the trash punk side. At next studio recording they changed their sound, adding some metal riffing, but good aggressive crossover it was. Some of that later, second demo stuff, is just released for the first time on vinyl, in cooperation of ex band member Habi who now lives in Stockholm, Sweden, and Serbian d.i.y. punk label Mamma records. Kaos - Demo '80 + Demo '81

Great female fronted punk from Rijeka, Croatia / former Yugoslavia. Hard, intense and driving punk rock with outstanding vocals, another piece of history that still kicks. Their later demos were more and more on post punk / dark wave side, that I also like, but for now I give you this 5 pure punk anthems. And it's not just music but also the lyrics, giving perfect picture of life at here, almost 3 decades later, corruption is even worse, and that's what I like about old former Yugoslavian punk, a really good socially aware lyrics. Rijeka had one of the strongest punk scenes in 80's and Kaos is one of my fave bands, if you hear this I believe you will understand why.

Hard-Core Ljubljana - Comp. LP (1985)

This is the record that get me into 80's underground do it yourself scene, I ordered it from teenage curiosity, there was no one in my hometown listening to this type of stuff that I know back than, and when I got it I get more into the whole thing, zines, trading, etc... (there was no computers and internet punxs in 80's). That's how powerful this record was. U.B.R., Odpadki Civilizacije, Tožibabe, Epidemija and III. Kategorija, each band with it's own sound yet so bloody represent for that time. Actually, I can write for hours about each band or track at here, you better hear it for yourself. What I can say is that it still has raw intensity and desperate fury that makes me impressed each time I listen to it, even today. Again, not a rip from my own vinyl, which can be found at slsk with many scans from killer punk as fuck cover full of art, photos, lyrics, etc... The record was re-released as CD in US by Batattack records with some previously unreleased tracks and some more recent Slovenian bands as bonus, but original vinyl edition rules the wasteland for me. Distress "Put U Raj" Demo / 7'' ('84 / '96)

Raw hardcore punk from Beograd, this tracks are originally recorded at 1984 and long time after the band split up released as 7'' by No Time To Be Wasted, with only 200 copies printed, I think. Again, one of the classic Yugoslavian underground bands, previously also known as Herpes Distress. Distress as all 80's bands has sound of their own - brutal former Yugoslavian punk influenced by Finnish hardcore and with some savage metal touch. Yeah, this is noisy, chaotic, and very aggressive stuff, by todays standards may be also seen as pre-crust, but what is the most important - this kills!

U.B.R. "Corpus Delicti" 7'' (1984)

OK, while the main purpose of this blog is to present really rare stuff that was mostly on home dubbed tapes, I know that there are people who are new to 80's former Yugoslavian hc/punk, so I will post the links to few but legendary vinyl releases as well. UBR was one of the first hardcore punk bands around here and they made some successful international contacts, so they got some attention and reputation that is of course very much deserved, but it is really just the top of an ice berg. Here is the link that I have seen at some dead blog, I decided not to upload the rip I have from my own vinyl version of "Corpus Delicti" 7'' (which has much more cover scans, it can be found at slsk if you really try). I have limited bandwith, and I will keep it for more rare stuff. This was released in Italy by Attack Punk records at 1984, and was later bootlegged on various releases as well. Slovenian / former Yugoslavian hardcore punk masterpiece, what else to say.

Strelnikoff - Demo '88

Slovenian band, this is their first demo, when I heard it back in times I was heavily impressed and I still dig this as some of the most original hardcore music ever made. Rhythm machine, samples, saxophone, electric guitar, distorted bass guitar, two screaming vocalists... and it rocks as hell. At late 80's they have played live a lot and had few releases and compilation appearances in former Yugoslavian and international hardcore circles. The band continued their activities in 90's but with time kinda lost that raw hardcore feel, yet making very good, original music, also collaborated with Marko Brecelj (Buldozer), and were quite respected in worldwide alternative music scenes, etc... There was even an "Strelnikoff affair" in Slovenia, when their album cover confronted them on public and criminal level with Roman Catholic Church, so they remained highly provocative as band.
Anyway, in 2001 the band had split up, but their first demo still sounds fresh and inspiring to me.

Thrashagain - Demo May/June '86

I believe this was recorded live at studio in real hurry as with most of former Yugoslavian studio demos (no money, no time). And to me it is probably the best way, at least for this type of noise. Thrashagain were from Beograd, playing here primitive unprofessional hardcore punk with type of sound that is also somehow in the vain of original 80's crust (think Napalm Death "Hatred Surge" Demo). Chaotic and darkened all the way. Balkan trash, that's how I call this. If you like your hardcore punk noisy and chaotic, and early crust rawk, this is a must. Thrashagain also has that doomed and desperate feel of our region, which makes it one of my all time faves.

Rock'N'Roll Je Ipak Prošlost - Comp. Tape

Kaos, Padot Na Vizantija, Trobecove Krušne Peci, Nade Iz Inkubatora, S.P.U.S., Mrtvi Kanal, Crist, Ženevski Dekret, Odgovor, Progres, Blitzkrieg, Depresija and Old Bone. Very prolific line up, including some of the best bands of that period from whole former Yugoslavia. Punk rock, hc/punk and post punk mostly, somehow on the darker side of the scene. Unfortunately no cover scan, just mp3's, but if I remember it right this was released somewhere in mid/late 80's as well, by No Time To Be Wasted Tapes in Beograd. Divlji Cvetovi - Comp. Tape '87

Yeah, this is what 80's former Yugoslavian underground was all about, home dubbed compilations and total do it yourself attitude. While in more well known scenes vinyls were quite a usual thing, at Balkans it was more than luxury, and with only few underground vinyls being released in 80's, tapes made the local scene so active and interesting. This one was compiled in Serbia by Phantom Tapes, bringing some more established names of that time and some really "obscure" bands. Musically it goes from hardcore punk to more experimental punk sound, as d.i.y. scene at here was not so much divided by genres and scene rules. I guess we had to stick together if we wanted to do something back than. Lo fi, often practice room recordings, with raw intensity and originality, that's what "Divlji Cvetovi" has to offer by following bands from different republics of former Yugoslavia; No Passaran, Himmelstrasse, Genevan Decree, S.P.U.Š., Incest, Pandoras Shit Box, Kbo!, W.S.W., Rubbishmen Alternative Jazz, C.Z.D. and Thrashagain. Solidarnost - Demo '82

Raw in your face hardcore punk, practice room recordings I believe. Band was from Knin, Croatia, former Yugoslavia. I don't know much more about this band, I heard one member later moved to Zagreb and was playing in more punk rock orientated band called Blitzkrieg. But I like this demo a lot, I was even unaware of it back in 80's, just recently found it at slsk. This is real classic, dirty lo fi sound and primitive yet highly energetic and chaotic music, with very desperate socially aware lyrics - all being sort of trademark for 80's former Yugoslavian hardcore punk. While in early 80's this type of bands mostly coming from Slovenia and Serbia were a bit more known, this demo is even more under rated part of 80's international hardcore punk scene than let's say S.D.A., Necrophilia, U.B.R., etc... So, if you like stuff like early Chaos UK, Disorder, or early US hc/punk, this comes from pretty much the same time and with similar sound, yet with the blatant Balkan trash feel, where things were even more hard and daring. Truly noise from nowhere. And it fucking kills!
